"Olympic Day" is the anniversary of the foundation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in the Sorbonne University in Paris on June 23, 1894. The event has been commemorated through the Olympic Day activities organized by all the Olympic Committees in the world since 1987. Olympic Day events aim to create an environment filled with the excitement of doing sports for people of all ages. The event creates sporting opportunities for the community with the objective of nurturing peaceful, loving and healthy societies. Olympic Day activities are celebrated in June each year by all the member countries of the International Olympic Committee. In recent years, these activities have taken place in many Turkish cities on the same day.
‘"Olympic Day" is a social movement that has not been associated with a single nation, person or event. It embraces all through pure Olympic values. Equality is entrenched in its values as it is open to everyone who adopts high principles of life. It does not favor or discriminate against anyone. It signifies celebrating the Olympic Movement and Olympic values, as well as conveying the main Olympic principles and the core of the Olympic charter to the masses through Olympic experiences. It allows people to become a part of the Olympic spirit without participating in the Olympic Games. It helps raise Olympic people. Olympic Day has a much deeper and stronger mission than any other sporting event. It is the most comprehensive education project that has ever been carried out. It envisages that we appreciate and embrace Olympic values and principles and the core of the Olympic charter in order to adopt this philosophy and try to live by it.
