Our national boxers Buse Naz Çakıroğlu and Busenaz Sürmeneli made history by reaching the finals on 4 August at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In athletics, Eşref Apak finished 9th in the hammer throw final with a throw of 76.71m.
Buse Naz Çakıroğlu defeated Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao-Wen Huang 5-0 in the 51kg semi-finals in women's boxing – where we competed for the first time – to reach the final. Busenaz Sürmeneli, defeated India’s Lovlina Borgohain 5-0 in the women’s boxing 69kg semi-final to reach the final. Both of our athletes will play their final matches on 7 August.
In wrestling, Osman Göçen lost to Russian Olympic Committee’s Artur Naifonov in the freestyle 86kg quarter-final and was eliminated for the Games. Süleyman Atlı lost 3-2 to Iran’s Reza Atringharchi in the freestyle 57kg first round.
In volleyball, our national team was defeated 3-2 against South Korea in the quarter-finals, in what was a tight contest.
In sailing, the Çınar and Deniz Ateş brothers finished the medal race and the Games 10th place in the 470 Class.
