The fifth day of the European Youth Olympic Summer Festival (EYOF) in Baku, Azerbaijan, ended with three medals for Turkey’s athletes. The medals were secured in judo and swimming.
Özlem Yıldız becomes an EYOF Champion
The first medal of the day was a gold from Özlem Yıldız in the girl’s 57kg judo competition. On her route to the final, she defeated German Samira Bock in the quarter-final round and her Dutch rival Alexe Wagemaker in the semi-final. In the gold medal match, Yıldız, faced Russian Kseniia Galitskaia, defeating her opponent with a waza-ari to become an EYOF champion.
Second EYOF Gold from Beril Böcekler
Swimmer Beril Böcekler won her second gold at the EYOF on day five. Her medal came in the girl’s 200m freestyle after an impressive time of 2:00.62. Her compatriot Berke Saka took home silver in the men’s 200m backstroke with a time of 2:01.62.
