Yasmani Copello ESCOBAR
15.04.1987 yılında doğan Küba asıllı milli sporcumuz Yasmani Copello
Escobar, Rio Olimpiyat Oyunları’nda Türkiye’yi atletizm erkekler 400
metre engelli dalında temsil etti. Elemelerde 49:52’lik derecesiyle
serisinde birinci, genel sıralamada 21. olarak yarı finale çıkan Escobar,
yarı finalde de 48:61’lik derecesiyle serisinde üçüncü, genel sıralamada
altıncı oldu ve adını finale yazdırdı. Oyunların 400 metre engelli finalinde
47:92’lik derecesiyle üçüncü olan Yasmani Copello Escobar, bu oyunlar-
da atletizmdeki tek madalyamızı kazandırdı. Bu dalda birinciliği 47:73 ile
Amerikalı Kerron Clement, ikinciliği 47:78 ile Kenyalı Mucheru Boniface
Tumuti elde etti.
Sporculuk yaşantısını Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü’nde sürdürmekte
olan Escobar, daha önce Beijing’de düzenlenen 2015 Dünya Atle-
tizm Şampiyonası’nda aynı dalda altıncı oldu.
Cuban-born on 15 April 1987 Yasmani Copello Escobar represented
Turkey at the Rio 2016 Games in men’s 400m hurdles.
Copello crossed the finish line in 49:52 seconds winning his series and
placing 21st, he advanced to the semi-finals. He finished his series in
semis in the third place with a time of 48:61 to move on to the finals
as the sixth best. Yasmani Copello Escobar won Turkey’s only medal
in athletics placing 3rd with his time of 47:92. Kerron Clement from US
won the gold medal with 47:73 and Kenyan Mucheru Boniface Tumuti
claimed the silver with 47:78.
Affiliated to Fenerbahçe Sports Club, Escobar had placed 6th
with 48:96 at the men’s 400 metres hurdles of the 2015
World Athletics Championships held in Beijing.
