TMOK’un dünyadaki gelişmiş
ülkelerin Olimpiyat Komiteleri gibi
bir “Sporcu Komisyonu” kurmasının
amacı, aktif sporcular ile TMOK ara-
sındaki bağları güçlendirmek. TMOK
aktif sporcularla iletişim içinde
olarak onların üst düzey gelişimleri,
sağlık, sosyo-ekonomik ve kültürel
geleceklerine yönelik ihtiyaç, görüş
ve önerilerini almak ve bunları ken-
di kurumsal karar ve faaliyetlerine
dahil etmek istemekte. Bunun bir
göstergesi de, Sporcu Komisyonu
Başkanı’na Yönetim Kurulu’nda yer
verilmesi.
Sporcu Komisyonu Başkanı olarak
görev ve sorumluluklarım; Olimpik
Federasyonlarımızın önermele-
riyle belirlenen 32 sporcu üyeli
Komisyonumuz vasıtasıyla ihtiyaç
ve önerilerini TMOK yönetim gün-
demine getirmek ve bunun yanında
bir de TMOK kaynaklı bilgilerin
aktif sporculara iletileceği iki yönlü
bir iletişim platformu oluşturmak
şeklinde özetlenebilir.
Ancak sadece Komisyon toplantı-
larıyla yetinmey düşünmüyorum.
Sporcular ile sürekli temas ve ileti-
şim halinde olarak onların sorun ve
ihtiyaçları ile ilgilenmek ve TMOK’a
bunlarla ilgili önerilerde bulunmak
istiyorum. Sporcuların sağlıkları,
dopingle mücadele bilinci, sosyo-
ekonomik geleceklerinin geliştiril-
mesi ve sporcuların yararına en iyi
uygulamaların hayata geçirilmesine
katkı sağlamayı planlıyorum. Bir
diğer hedefim de, her daldaki aktif
sporcuların kendi federasyonları
nezdinde ihtiyaç ve taleplerini dile
getirebilmeleri amacıyla, Sporcu
Komisyonları’nın tüm spor federas-
yonlarımız bünyesinde kurulması
için çaba sarfetmek.
and sports career. Some, aware
of the difficulties and sacrifices
high level sport requires, give
up sport and a few don’t. I didn’t
drop the school but had to give it
a secondary importance. I went
to a night-school and then to the
university. Sure it is difficult but I
believe sport and education must
go hand in hand. When I decided
to turn pro I received a lot of criti-
cism. It was only my family, my
club ENKA Spor and my Federa-
tion who supported me.
You started with a dream
and you made it. We don’t think
you find your achievements to
be sufficient. What are your
next goals?
I don’t want to put any limits,
neither to myself, nor my dreams.
My dreams are getting bigger as
I achieve. My biggest sportive
dreams today are winning an
Olympic medal and a Grand Slam.
I think what I want at the bottom
is to become a tennis ambas-
sador of Turkey, and not only in
the international platform too...
Development of tennis in Turkey
is very important for me. I want
to increase the number of people
interested in tennis. I’ve started
doing things for that and I will
definitely continue.
Do you mean as a role
model?
Role models are of course
important. If there had been a
Turkish tennis player in the top,
say 20, I’d have started aiming for
a place higher than that. But there
was none. So I targeted to play a
Grand Slam only. Now we have
good tennis facilities in Turkey bat
role models are still scarce. If I
am a role model for the kids and
youngsters, it’ll only make me
happy. I came where I am through
bringing down walls. If I could do
it, then somebody else can do it
too. When a young tennis player
looks at me, he or she must think
“Çağla is world no. 60. I can be too.”
Even that’s not enough, they must
have bigger dreams than mine. I
tell those who say we want to be
like you, “No. Be better.”
However, I want to more than
just being a role model. I want
to shoulder responsibilities to
contribute to the development of
Turkish tennis. I want to contribute
to the succeeding generations’
advance in vision.
That you were elected as the
President of the TOC Athletes’
Commission shows it. What do
you want to do for the athletes
as the Commission?
The purpose of the Turkish
Olympic Committee in establish-
ing an Athletes’ Commission was
to provide a two-way communi-
cation platform for dialogue be-
tween the active athletes and the
Committee. TOC aims to provide
the active athletes a milieu to ex-
press their rights, needs, opinions
and proposals about their health,
social and professional future and
include them in the decision mak-
ing process. That’s why the Presi-
dent of the Athletes’ Commission
is automatically assigned a seat
on the TOC’s Executive Board.
My powers and responsibilities
as the President of the Athletes’
Commission, comprising of 49
members designated by the
Olympic Federations, are to create
a two-way communication plat-
form between the athletes and
the TOC administration. However, I
will not suffice with just that and I
will try to come up with proposals
to further the health, awareness
about the fight against doping,
their socio-economic future and
implementation of some best
practices in their favour. Another
goal for me will be to try and
initiate the establishment of such
athletes’ commissions within the
organisational structure of our
national sports federations.
